Ivy vs. Two-Face

Posted: September 27, 2015 in Batman miniature game, Gaming

This evening a good game of Batman. We were playing an intro game with my Ivy and Two-Face gangs around 270 points. Scenario 1, Chance Encounter, is always a good bet for some fast and brutal action and we made sure all four objective types were included for variety.
In the initial setup Tsasz failed to arrive but the rest of the models were fairly evenly spread around the table. In the early action Two-Face’s shotgun henchman managed to put some hurt on one of my prisoners while the rest of models dashed for the objectives.

In the second turn I flooded the centre of the table with 4 of the 5 plant slaves I had taken but Tsasz failed to show again! My prisoner escaped from the shotgun wielding henchman through the use of a smoke grenade and a few scuffles on the edge.
By turn 3 Tsasz was on and Ivy had managed to pull off her Control Pheromone trick to get one of Two-Face’s henchmen to shoot the main man in the back. This was a key moment as 4 blood on the boss allowed one of the Plant Slaves to pull off a couple of jammy shots and knock Two-Face out. I had also managed to get Tsasz and a Prisoner onto the Ammo Objective and the were starting to accumulate.
In the remaining action Cat Woman (who shouldn’t have been in Two-Face’s gang, whoops, my mistake!) nabbed the loot and ran for it will Tsasz and Ivy cleaned up some of Two-Face’s henchmen. When Tsasz pounced on the badly beaten Two-Face it was clear the game was over and we called time.

So, Ivy’s Control Pheromone trick was the business again. It really is a very nice ability especially against an opponent not familiar with it. The Plant Slaves did quite well too and I am pleased Tsasz did well as I enjoy using him. Still enjoying my Batman and I am determined to get this Ivy gang painted up.

Finished up my second trio of Plant Slaves tonight. I have a third trio as but will need to get Ivy and some Prisoners done before tackling those. I doubt I will ever use all nine but having the option to take 3 of any given Plant Slave appeals to my darker side.

I’ve been painting some Wild West Exodus Outlaws recently. These are interesting models in that they have very elegant silhouettes but as you might expect from a plastic starter some of the surface detail could be better. On the gaming table I expect them to look superb from a foot or so away so I’ve gone for a good tabletop rather than spending hours on them. The colours are in the main P3 browns, P3 Thornwood Green and Vallejo Buff. I’ve gone for natural colours in the main but Blood Red neckerchiefs to contrast and give them an Outlaw feel. The base colours were washed over with a Gamesworkshop sepia tone and a little brown ink. The metals are my usual Alclad Burnt Metal and Chrome with a little brown ink and Ultramarines blue washed in. Most of the possie is base coated, washed and based ready to use but I’ve a put a few finishing details on the models below.

A special game of Infinity this evening to say fareful to a good friend who is off to work abroad for a year. Just as well it was a fun and friendly game as we both turned up without the rules and ad hoc forces! Nonetheless a quick visit to the Corvus Belli website and with N3 Wiki at hand we ploughed on with a 250 point game.

We played the Armoury scenario and went at each other pretty gung-ho. In the early action I lost both of my Shrouded and Yaogat Snipers to the superior Nomad Interventor and we both crept up on the Armoury putting models on the outside ready to fight it out for the main prize.

I dropped my Rasyat in behind the Nomad’s lines but he was taken down in ARO by the Cat girl Doctor. Doh! At this stage things were not looking good for the Combined Army but I did have some Morats threatening the Armoury ready and waiting in Supressive fire mode.

The Nomad’s bravely opened the doors to to the Armoury and a brutal firefight more akin to 40K than Infinity broke out. The Nomads got the better of this and were able to dominate the room to score an objective point.

In the final desperate turn my Noctifier and remaining Morats stormed the Armoury in an attempt get a draw. It was looking good for this outcome until the Nomad lieutenant managed to critical the Noctifier with the last order of the game and secure the win. Tense stuff and a dramatic end to a very good game.

I’d forgotten how good Infinity can be when played in the right spirit. I wish my opponent, Matt, the very best in his exciting year ahead and I now have the ignominy of knowing that it will be at least that long before I can get revenge! Git 🙂

My rate of painting has been shocking in recent months. I’m aiming to try and do a few minutes each night hence forth and this evening my second set of Plant Slaves got a little love. I’ve got a third det on the way too!

Dystopian Wars 3 way

Posted: September 2, 2015 in Dystopian Wars, Gaming

A rare game of Dystopian Wars yesterday evening. A three-way game between Prussians, Antartica and Britannia in which we were playing just for fun.

image

As you can see my hapless Prussians ended up in the middle which is never a good thing in war. The game mechanics came back to us fairly quickly and I have to say there are patterns that make Spartan games pretty simple to learn. Having said that we used basic models and didn’t pay too much attention to detail to keep things flowing.
After a couple of turns I was reminded of how quickly forces engage in this game and there were significant casaulties. Without much terrain and no objective (other than smashing the other guy to oblivion) Dystopian Wars is a bit of a tit-for-tat attrition war, so being the middle is a recipe for disaster and it was looking grim for the Prussians. The Antarticans had some interesting rules such as a partially submerged battleship and mine laying planes and the KOB models seemed to have an abundance of Armour Piercing nastiness. It wasn’t long before the Prussian battleship was limping along carry two criticals and I was out of the game.

I had put some hurt on KOB force so the Antarticans didn’t have too much trouble clearing up to take the win.
I do like the fluff and models in this game but I think I need to do some more reading about the Prussians as they seem always get thrashed and are light on gimmicks. There is a lot of depth to this game yet to be explored and I would love to do a campaign. A shame it is not a very popular system.
